A topic was raised on Zelda Universe Forums about the Skyward Sword demo that was shown at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) that took place in Seattle Washington this past weekend. While the demo that was shown at the event was the same one that was shown at E3 a member of Zelda Universe was able to give some analysis which you can find after the post jump. In the analysis you will see some new observations which you can also find after the post jump.
Zelda Informer and Zelda Dungeon also gave their input on the new observations and we have them for you below.
-You can attack enemies before they even get a chance to defend themselves properly. (0:25)
-You don’t need full health to use the Sword Beam. (5:08)
-You can walk around in First Person mode. (5:20)
-You can run while holding a bomb. (8:00)
-Deku Babas will try to eat bombs if you drop one near them. (8:10)
-The Slingshot will stun Deku Babas. (8:27)
-Arrows can take out hanging Deku Babas. You don’t need to use the beetle to cut the stem. (8:42)
-”The door is locked tight” is what shows up if you try to open a locked door. (9:20)
-Arrows can also defeat Golden Deku Babas. (9:47)
Below we have Zelda Dungeon’s observations, while it may not focus on the video in general they did give some interesting facts about the enemy, the Deku Babas:
-There are at least two variations: Blue and Gold.
-Blue Deku Babas require either a horizontal or vertical slash to defeat, depending on the direction of their mouth.
-Gold Deku Babas require horizontal and vertical slashes to defeat them as they separate into four parts instead of two.
-Link can use the Beetle to cut a Deku Baba from its stem.
-Link can also use the Bow and Arrow to cut its stem.
-If Link tosses a bomb near a Deku Baba, it will try to gobble it up and it will explode inside of the enemy.
-Link can use a slingshot to stun a Deku Baba temporarily.
-Link can defeat a Deku Baba with a direct hit using the Bow and Arrow.
These are some interesting observations that were made and just like Zelda Dungeon I like and agree with what they said about the Deku Babas.
I think it’s sweet that such a simple enemy like a Deku Baba has so much to it. There are multiple ways to attack and almost every single weapon does something different. Looking back at most enemies in Twilight Princess, I recall almost every weapon either stunning or defeating an enemy, with an occasional enemy having multiple ways of defeating them. With a Deku Baba, you can use your sword, bombs, or bow and arrow to defeat them, or several other methods just to get them out of the way. Awesome.
