I don’t care whether you love or hate new Zelda games. This one is worth every penny, and if you don’t believe me, read this review. It will give you all the answers you need to know about Skyward Sword. If you stopped playing Zelda games because of Twilight Princess’s difficulty, or Wind Waker’s cartoony graphics, do yourself a favor right now and somehow find a way to play Skyward Sword. I spent a week out of my life to play this game, and I will tell you right now, it’s worth it. But this is a review so let’s get started.
When I first started the game up, the graphics seemed to look barren and even ugly. But as I looked closer, it hit me: these graphics are the best graphics I have seen in a Zelda game, and even a Wii game for that matter. They are stunning. The water colors from when you look at a distance, are simply beautiful. Everything you do compliments the landscape around you, and you will be blown away. They are similar to the Wind Waker’s graphics, but not quite. Imagine the simplicity and cartoon feel of them. Now, imagine those with Twilight Princess’s texture work and Super Smash Brother’s beautiful graphics, and BAM, you have a taste of Skyward Sword.
I absolutely loved the story line. It was the most intriguing storyline of a Zelda game to date, and you will notice how beautiful it is. It takes place as the first Zelda game of all time, and it has you forging the Master Sword, and building the Triforce. If that isn’t good enough, imagine a Zelda game that is just as epic as Ocarina of Time, with a cooler antagonist than the Dark Lord Ganondorf. Demise, the antagonist, is awesome. Scoot over Ganon, someone way badder than you is taking your spot as best villain. Demise is just pure, simple evil and it’s as easy as that. The storyline is so addicting, I played 50 hours straight, and it felt like 5.
The music behind the game is also beautiful. Make sure you get your copy with the music CD, because the score is beautiful. I listen to it non stop, and took a break from Avenged Sevenfold to do that. It is as melodic as Wind Waker’s, but just as filling as Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess. It doesn’t stand out as much in the game as in previous installments, but beautiful just the same. The sounds the characters make when they speak sometimes are nothing short of hilarious. I busted up when one of the mole dudes popped out of his hole and said “Yo”. That was hilarious. The weapon sound effects are right on, and dialogue isn’t even needed. Every sword strike sound is just as strong as the other titles.
The controls are nothing short of incredible. The different variety of sword slashes guarantee you will never see the same swing twice(at least it feels that way). I did have a few issues with them though. Sometimes the way you swing your remote, doesn’t even come close to what appears on screen. The motion controls just straight up aren’t accurate enough it feels like for sword hits sometimes, especially when you need to be precise. That led to few too many unwanted deaths, but 99% of the time, the sword swinging is right on target There was a huge learning curve for making sure you aren’t just doing random swings, and once you get the hang of it, you will never want to play Zelda with a standard controller again.
Graphics: Beautiful watercolor graphics shine on the Wii 10/10
Sound: Awesome score, with solid sound effects 9/10
Controls: Solid, innovative, fun controls, easily make the sword fighting standout as one of the most memorable parts of the game 9/10
Replay: With so much to do, you could easily play this for 100 hours+ 10/10
Overall Score: 10/10
Is Skyward Sword the best Zelda game of all time? Drum roll………..YES! With such an awesome storyline, to innovative motion controls and beautiful graphics with solid sounds, this is definitively the best Zelda game of all time. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s mask used to be my favorites, but this game beats them both out. I LOVE this game. Nintendo, you have made nothing short of a Masterpiece. Happy 25th Anniversary Legend of Zelda. This is the best Zelda game of all time. -Teton45
